Lumbridge Goblins are the level 2 goblins found in the field east of the River Lum, a short walk over the bridge from Lumbridge Castle. They are almost always the first monster a new adventurer fights and, for most of them, the first source of GP they ever earn.

Every account ever made has passed through the goblins. Players arrive with a bronze dagger, a wooden shield and no money, and they leave with a stack of bones, a few coins and their first combat levels. The goblins have been farmed for twenty years and have never been paid for it. $GOBLINS is the goblins getting paid.

The toll gate

East of the goblins stands the gate to Al Kharid, and the guards want 10 coins to let anyone through. A fresh account has nothing, so the walk to the desert usually starts with a detour into the goblin field to farm the toll.

That makes the Lumbridge goblins the first economy in the game. The coins in a new player's first trade, first shop purchase and first toll payment very likely came out of a goblin. The GP has always flowed one way: from goblins to humans.

Trivia

• The goblins are older than most of the players who farm them. They appear in RuneScape Classic and have been standing in the same field ever since.
• A level 2 goblin has 5 Hitpoints and a max hit of 1, so a brand-new player can kill one with a bronze dagger and some patience.
• The blue 0 hitsplat is how most players first learn what "accuracy" means.
• Goblins worship the Big High War God. They don't agree on much else. In Goblin Diplomacy, Generals Bentnoze and Wartface nearly start a war over what colour their armour should be.
• In 2020 a post titled "Goblins of Lumbridge, rise up" reached the front page of r/2007scape. The goblins took note.
• After the Prince Ali rescue, the Al Kharid toll is free. The goblins didn't get a cut of that deal either.
• No goblin has ever been banned for botting, though the players farming them can't say the same.
